Drama residencies by 'Ohi'a Productions
These Programs meet the following
standards:
Science Language
Arts Social Studies Fine Arts
FLYING, FLOATING,
SWIMMING (Ages 3 -
5) This exciting
five-day residency was developed for the Early Learner as
an introduction to the Hawaiian Rainforest. Students learn that native
plants and animals arrived in Hawai'i by flying, floating or swimming.
Based on the popular book "Beyond 'Ohi'a Valley" students peek into the
Hawaiian Rainforest and recreate through chant and simple movement the
journey stories of the various native seeds, the rare Happy-Faced Spider,
the Kole'a bird and the Hawaiian Monk Seal. This residency is a true
integration of drama, math, science, Hawaiian language, music and dance.
VOICES OF THE RAINFOREST (Grades
K - 6) Based on Lisa Matsumoto & Roslyn's original musical Voices
of the Rainforest, this curriculum meets Hawaii State and
National Science Content Standards. In addition, content and materials
were adapted from the 'Ohi'a Project, produced by the Bernice Pauahi
Bishop Museum and Moanalua Gardens Foundation in cooperation with the
Hawai'i State Department of Education.
Students experience specific life, physical and earth science based
concepts at each grade level through music and dance. In addition, the
residency focuses on writing at each grade level and expands and connects
to the visual arts, poetry and other writing genre. Students share their
learning in a culminating event for parents and friends that showcase the
learning process. Voices of the Rainforest is an exciting way for
students to experience drama and science in a school setting!
A DAY IN THE CRYSTAL CLEAR BAY
(Grades K - 6) Students will create their own performance
using the original story and music from 'Ohi'a Productions' popular show
In the Clear Blue Sea written by Lisa Matsumoto, Music & Lyrics
by Roslyn and Marco Catracchia.
"A
Day in the Crystal Clear Bay" is the story of Coral, the coral reef, and
teaches the importance of maintaining balance in the ocean's food chain.
Teaching artists use drama, music, dance, and visual arts as an entry
point to life and earth science content such as interdependence and cause
and effect. This program ends as a culminating event complete with puppets
and choreography.
