The following are representations of the hundreds of testimonials received from our Teacher Evaluation Sheets that are submitted after each Educational Road Show performance. Scroll down further for some of the Students' comments regarding the show and what they have learned and experienced from it. What Teachers Said ... Excellent!
The presentation really helped my students focus on the importance of
preserving our Hawaiian forests and inhabitants. They speak highly of
the actors (funny), the content (interesting), and the medium (some
are interested in getting involved in the theater!!!) HANAHOU!!!! Please
enjoy copies of student reflections. We have
always been impressed with the way you're able to teach the students
about our environment and the issues concerning our environment. The
use of music and costume was effective in holding students' attention
as well as in providing more information. Students loved the presentation
and left with knowledge which will impact their future behavior. Look
forward to next year's production!! Our students
were very impressed with your performance. They not only enjoyed the
theatrical side, but also came away with new information about sea creatures
in the reef and a clear understanding about the value and importance
of each element of the reef! Thanks for sharing your talent and teaching
our students how to value the environment! This was
one of the best environmental performances I have seen. The actors projected
in a way that kept the Kindergartners on the edge of their seats, laughing
and clapping at appropriate times. Excellent
message on how things that affect the forest, affects all living things
down to the sea (how everything is connected). The "cause and effect"
lesson was especially meaningful and the way the actors summarized it
with their posters made a visual and lasting impression in our
minds. The story about the native birds and why their numbers are dwindling
made an impact through song and the elimination of each species. Nice
tie in with fairy tale stories that the children can relate to. The
play was meaningful, exciting, stimulating and fun! Awesome job!
This play touches the hearts and minds of people of all ages. What an
excellent way to get an academically packed message across!! We all
loved the performance. What a creative way to show the differences
of each area! Thank you for an entertaining and educational performance. Excellent
presentation! Children were fascinated by the performance (costume and
use of song). Great lesson on cause and effect. They now understand
this reading skill and are applying it to stories they are reading.
Excellent message of maintaining balance and harmony in nature and their
awareness and participation to protect & preserve our rain forests. This performance
was the absolutely, positively most wonderful, most effective, most
appropriately humorous presentation I have seen with my class in 9 years
of teaching. This was
one of the best presentations that I've seen for school groups! The
children learned a lot because it was presented in such an entertaining
way. There was a great mix of "talk", acting, singing, etc.
I would highly recommend this production. The children's responses were
all very positive and I have never seen them more enthusiastic and involved
as an audience before. My hats off to the four performers as well as
the story writers and prop makers! I had
a few students tell me that this was the "best assembly we ever
had". Their acting was great and they presented the info in a humorous
and easy-to-remember manner. I was
very impressed! Not only was the acting, dancing & singing entertaining,
but your messages came across well, also. The children and I really
enjoyed your performance. I heard that in the past you allowed children
to ask questions after the plays. I think my class would have liked
to participate in that! The children
and I really enjoyed your presentation! The actors and actresses did
a wonderful job of teaching the children about preserving our environment.
The children loved the upbeat songs, beautiful costumes, fashion show
and the humor! Thank you very much for coming! We'd love to have you
come back! The students
were very attentive and thoroughly enjoyed the program. The performance
helped to reinforce the importance or taking care of our oceans. It
also emphasized individual uniqueness. Mahalo for coming to share with
our keikis. Categories
- A+++ for each area! Thoroughly enjoyed by children and adults. Taught
concepts in a fun manner. Excellent visuals ... the props were great.
Performers are very talented. Their enthusiasm established good rapport
with youngsters. Great music. I enjoyed
the information and images you presented. It tied in well to 4th grade
Hawaiian Studies curriculum, and it was fun. I always look forward to
presentations by 'Ohi'a Prod., Inc. because I know it will be the best
on 2 levels: informative and entertaining! The
teacher packet (incl. synopsis) greatly aided me to prepare the class
for the play. In turn, the students gained a better understanding of
your messages. Students are still talking about the play and are relating
it to our studies. Excellent!
Both informative and entertaining! Wonderful costumes! Comments from
students: Please come again! Your show was funny! You guys act great!
I enjoyed watching your show especially the comedy parts! You guys project
well and have good pronunciation! Thank you for coming! We learned a
lot. My class
and I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation. What a wonderful way for
children to learn about Hawai'i's endangered flora and fauna. The acting
was superb as well as the unique and colorful costumes. You are always
welcome back for a command performance. What showmanship! High level
of content easily adapted into our 4th grade curriculum. Kept students
interested and excited throughout the play. EXCEPTIONAL performance. The play
was a wonderfully, imaginative way to covey to the children the importance
of taking care of the Hawaiian plants and animals. They could see how
special Hawai'i's environment truly is. We always enjoy the performances
tremendously! Wonderful
performance!! Great way to show cause and effect, and still be able
to laugh. Good creative medium: songs, dance, props were very effective
in covering such an important aspect of our 'aina. Students were totally
engrossed and had a wonderful time "learning"!! It was
awesome! These kinds of plays are really effective. It's such a great
opportunity for our students to be exposed to plays and productions.
The message about saving our rain forest was very clear. I'd love to
see more of these performances here on Molokai. Thank
you for sharing your talents with us today! We appreciate your enthusiasm
and support and are grateful to your troop's flexibility in performing
on a weekend. You have touched many today with your gift of talents. The children
had a wonderful time learning about the sea. They got so involved and
wanted to help the characters by telling them when the shark was coming.
I even had a couple of children give a standing ovation at the end.
They loved it!!! We've
always been pleased with the perfomers and their performances. The children
and teachers were involved in the performance. It always amazes and
impresses me what a captivating and informative presentation can be
given with such simple props and background. Kudos to the performers
and to the playwright. Besides the music, the humor that weaves its
way through the play has been my favorite! (I've had tears running down
my face because I'm laughing so hard!) Thank you!! What Students Said ... I will
help by making new laws to protect plants, animals and their habitat. They told
us about the different kinds of plants and animals and where they lived
and how to help the plants and animals. I will not pull out a plant
and kill it or step too close and damage the roots of the plant. I will
try to conserve water and not pull out any plants in the forest. Thank
you for coming to our school and teaching us about saving trees. I've
learned that wherever you are don't destroy nature by saving paper.
Conserve water and take care of the environment. When you turn on water
and leave it on for a long time, think about all the plants and animals
that need the water too. I think everyone learned the lesson and will
protect the environment. Thank
you for the wonderful play you put on "Under the Hawaiian Sky".
I learned that you should not pollute, but should take care of your
environment. You should take care of endangered animals and plants so
they can multiply. We should save our water so plants can grow big and
strong so we can have things like paper, medicine, and thing like that.
I learned a lot and thank you for the marvelous play. Thank
you for putting on a great show for our school. My favorite part of
the show was when the turtles performed. I learned a lot of stuff like
take only the fishes you need and let the small ones grow up. I never
knew that sharks helped out that much but now I know that sharks aren't
so bad as I thought they were before. The costumes were cool. If I see
rubbish in the water I'll get rid of it to keep our ocean clean as possible. Thank
you for the play. I like the play that I could see it 100 times. Thank
you for coming to our school. Are you coming next year? When I grow
up I want to be in the play that you showed me and my class. Thank
you for coming to our school to do "Under the Hawaiian Sky".
We liked the play because you had nice songs. Your voices are beautiful!!
We felt happy when we watched your show! It was funny! We learned about
Hawaii and nature. We learned to take care of plants and birds. Some
of the birds in Hawaii are endangered. We have a question. Do you practice
a lot? Everything in your show was special because all of you were in
it. You did a maika'i job! I enjoyed
watching "Under the Hawaiian Sky". The part of the play I
liked best was learning how to take care of the world. Thank
you for teaching us about the different mountain zones and showing us
different creatures and how they survive. It was a creative and fun
way to learn. Thank
you for taking time for us. I really appreciate it. I loved the whole
thing. It's hard for me to decide. I think I like when one of you dressed
up as a fish and taught us. But I also really like the birds. Thanks
again, I really enjoyed it. This is
the best play I ever saw in the whole world. I wish you can do it all
over again. That was so good I wonder how you got that idea. Thank you
for doing that play. Thank
you for the show. I loved the show. I also learned alot from your show
like how to keep the beach clean also to catch only what you need. Thank
you for teaching us about the ocean. I learned not to pollute and I
learned sign language. I learned not to step on coral and to put nature
back where it belongs. I hope you can come next year. I hope you will
be healthy everyday. Thank
you for coming to show us the play. I learned that together we can save
the reef. I liked the Lion fish and the Green sea turtle. The manini
was very funny because he screamed while he was running. I thought sharks
were not helpful but they are. I also learned to keep balance in the
ocean.
